Frank Lloyd Wright patterned art glass "light screens" in the
Martin House to depict the delicate, cascading blossoms and intricate branches
of the wisteria vine growing around the pergola.
This motif was repeated on glass tiles decorating the magnificent fireplace
that graced the entry hall and living room. Today, we use "wisteria"
as a symbol of grace and beauty to name our Museum Shop.
The fluted shape of the ginkgo leaf, which denotes signature items found only at the Darwin Martin House, provides another enduring symbol for the Martin House. Two great ginkgo biloba trees grow on either side of the
driveway, one of which has stood there for close to 100 years.
